Dear Committee Chairs- President Hirshman would like to sit down with each or your committees to get a better understanding of how your committee functions and have a Q & A session with each. Please provide at least two early fall meeting dates when your committee would be interested in meeting with President Hirshman. Send your responses to senate@mail.sdsu.edu by Monday, August 15. Thank you. -- Allison Bobrow Administrative Analyst San Diego State University Senate Administration Building, Room 221 Mailcode: 1621 5500 Campanile Drive San Diego, CA 92182-1621 Phone: (619) 594.5320 senate@mail.sdsu.edu http://sdsu.edu/senate
I can talk about our IDM and Google project. If all the stars align, we can migrate the mail.sdsu.edu accounts in September. Tonight I just finished an alias workflow for IDM, as well as some new UI features that should make the process very easy based upon some testing feedback this week. For those of you who have a mail.sdsu.edu account you can test the system (it even contains mail migrated in May). Simply go to: https://sandlot.sdsu.edu/apex/f?p=103:1 Select the 'Request Test Account' link and a registration code, along with additional information will be sent to your mail.sdsu.edu account. You can then claim your accountets.sdsu.edu/helpdesk/google.htm Status of the changeover of email for the campus.
I recently experimented with Amazon Web Services. It was an excellent tool to create remote UNIX, Windows, Mac and Linux servers. Gone are the days when Departments must purchase servers. We can easily encourage the use of student hand held devices that can SSH or FTP to these remote servers. Also, there should be a discussion on relaxing some security protocols NOT for those faculty who USE the internet in teaching/research but for those whose research and teaching actually INVOLVE manipulating internet protocols. Perhaps members of your committee can have fast track authority to allow some exemptions.
