1. James Frazee - update from faculty survey
ITS would like to share more data from the spring 2011 Faculty Survey on Instructional Technology Support (N = 487). The results can certainly inform our directions for this coming year. I would also like to provide a quick update on ITS happenings, especially in light of the departure of Jim Julius.

2. Inviting President Hirshman and setting our agenda for this year? What topics from your colleges?
Dear Committee Chairs-
President Hirshman would like to sit down with each or your committees to
get a better understanding of how your committee functions and have a Q & A
session with each.
Please provide at least two early fall meeting dates when your committee
would be interested in meeting with President Hirshman.
Send your responses to senate@mail.sdsu.edu by Monday, August 15.
Thank you.

3. Rich Pickett CIO, Update on Gmail for SDSU
I can talk about our IDM and Google project. If all the stars align, we can
migrate the mail.sdsu.edu accounts in September.

Tonight I just finished an alias workflow for IDM, as well as some new UI
features that should make the process very easy based upon some testing
feedback this week.

For those of you who have a mail.sdsu.edu account you can test the system
(it even contains mail migrated in May). Simply go to:
https://sandlot.sdsu.edu/apex/f?p=103:1

Select the 'Request Test Account' link and a registration code, along with
additional information will be sent to your mail.sdsu.edu account. You can
then claim your account
ets.sdsu.edu/helpdesk/google.htm Status of the changeover of email for the campus.

4. from Tom Impelluso (on Sabbatical)
I recently experimented with Amazon Web Services.
It was an excellent tool to create remote UNIX,
Windows, Mac and Linux servers. Gone are the days
when Departments must purchase servers. We can
easily encourage the use of student hand held
devices that can SSH or FTP to these remote servers.

Also, there should be a discussion on relaxing some
security protocols NOT for those faculty who USE the
internet in teaching/research but for those whose
research and teaching actually INVOLVE manipulating
internet protocols. Perhaps members of your
committee can have fast track authority to allow
     some exemptions.

Registration information for this event is below. Ed Skoudis is awesome. A snippet of the presentation link:
"Webcast Overview: SANS NetWars Presentation with Ed Skoudis
NetWars is a collection of computer and network security challenges designed to represent real-world security issues, their flaws and their resolutions.
Each player can follow an independent path based on individual problem solving skills, technical skills, aptitude, and creativity. The challenge is played in a fun but safe environment using the technology that drives our lives every day.
This challenge is our most sophisticated interactive, hands-on laboratory environment and takes the most time to play."
