Senate Chair Fred Hornbeck email the following description of the goal of the University Senate, which might be useful to consider. "San Diego State has a broadly based, inclusive, and effective model of shared governance that is matched by few other universities. The success of this system depends crucially upon the participation of individual members of the faculty in the governance process." Hornbeck Nomination request

IT Committee is a "standing committee" or the University Senate

Stewart learned at the last University Senate meeting (Tuesday 08mar05) that since the IT Committee is a "standing committee" of the University Senate, it is NOT within their authority to change the membership of the committee. Therefore, the information Stewart received that the IT committee had voted in Spring 2004 to include the Ex-Officio members, who provided much needed expertise in crafting the campus Student Email Policy, was not an appropriate action. Therefore, the recent committee vote to confer voting rights on the Ex-Officio members was not appropriate.
