Subject: Email Security Alert - New Phishing Attempts From: "Rich Pickett" Date: Tue, February 5, 2008 4:19 pm To: Faculty and Staff From: Rich Pickett Senior Director and CIO Enterprise Technology Services Subject: E-mail Security Alert - New Phishing Attempts Hackers are continually looking for new methods to illegally obtain IDs and passwords in their identity theft attempts. One of the new methods involves e-mail messages posing as official mail from a university help desk, and requesting your e-mail ID and password. These attempts are very sophisticated, sending tailored messages to each individual. They are well written and may include university logos and other identifying information. We will never request your password in an e-mail. You should never provide identify information (SSN, driver's license, login ID, password, DOB, etc.) to any individual over e-mail. You should also be extremely careful of providing this information to individuals over the phone. When in doubt, don't!! If you have any questions please feel free to contact your information technology staff or our Information Technology Security Office at http://security.sdsu.edu/.
