INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CONSULTANT - (CAREER)
EDUCATION CENTER FOR COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

Full-time temporary appointment anticipated to end on or before September 1, 1998 with possibility for reappointment.
BEGINNING SALARY: $3,267 mo. Commensurate with experience, knowledge and skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Attends workshops at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) to learn of novel technologies being developed for computational science researcher among the National Partnership for Advanced Computing Infrastructure. Designs and presents workshops for faculty and staff on educational uses of evolving high performance computing technologies from NPACI. Designs and develops Wide World Web interface for the Education Center for Computational Science & Engineering (EC/CSE) to demonstrate educational applications of NPACI research tools. Assists Director in writing grants for supplemental funds to extend the outreach and activities of EC/CSE. Supervise Graduate Assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS: Basic knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages. This knowledge would be obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science or business or equivalent training and applied experience.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED: Experience with: preparing and presenting workshops for faculty and staff from a diverse selection of academic disciplines on novel technologies to demonstrate their use in undergraduate education; teaching in a technology-based academic discipline using the Wide World Web; using Geographic Information System software and incorporating its use into the undergraduate curriculum. A Masters Degree academic preparation with demonstrated ability to assimilate a wide range of information and adapt to educational uses is required. Since the target audience is University faculty and their supporting staff, a Ph.D. background in technology-based disciplines will be advantageous. Ability to prepare and present workshops for faculty and staff from a diverse selection of academic disciplines on novel technologies to demonstrate their use in undergraduate education. Must be able to teach in a technology-based academic discipline using the Wide World Web as a delivery and interactive environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Masters of Science in a technology-based discipline; Ph.D. preferred. Experience with Geographic Information System software and incorporating its use into the undergraduate curriculum is desirable.
