Japan's Earth Simulator (NEC) machine received a lot of attention, until our U.S. Department of Energy announced the contract with IBM to build ASCI Purple and, in 2005, the ASCI Blue Gene/Light running Linux. http://asia.cnn.com/2002/TECH/biztech/11/19/ibm.supercomputerr.ap/ As our class calendar indicates, we begin our serious study of the path to Parallel Programming using the Message Passing Interface (MPI) and I have provided links to resources on Rohan that will allow you to experiment with this environment below we transition to using IBM's Blue Horizon at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. You accounts will be distributed in class today, once you read and sign the "User Responsibility Form". We have 4 weeks left in the semester now and we have just reached the most "powerful" part of this introduction to High Performance Computing. Please take a look at the MPI Rohan examples before class today so that when we discuss them it will not be "too new". The examples are linked to the Class Calendar http://www.stewart.cs.sdsu.edu/cs575/calendar.html See you soon Kris Stewart
