Full-time temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 1998 with possibility for reappointment

BEGINNING SALARY: $2,020 mo. Commensurate with experience, knowledge and skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Secretary to the Director of the new Education Center for Computational Science & Engineering (EC/CSE). Using word processing software, type correspondence from rough draft to final form. Compose letters and answer correspondence independently upon request. Respond where applicable to matters not requiring Director's direct attention. Assist Director in planning, organizing, coordinating and disseminating information to various agencies. Update World Wide Web page information for Director. Type and revise complex reports and proposals for grants, projects, and other proposed activities. Make travel arrangements; prepare travel request forms and expense claims; keep accounting of expenditures. Prepare appropriate appointment forms for both academic and non-academic personnel. Utilize a computer for data input of budget expenditures onto electronic spreadsheets. Responsible for the ordering of office supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include equivalent to three years of general office clerical work. (Two years of training in vocational business school/college or two years of full-time college education involving a variety of secretarial, business or commercial subjects may be substituted for two years of the required experience). Ability to type at a minimum corrected speed of 45 words per minute, clearly interpret a variety of complex procedural and policy applications; perform complex clerical work involving independent judgment, accuracy, and speed; independently draft and prepare clear and concise memorandums and correspondence; keep moderately complex records and files and operate word processing systems; thorough knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, punctuation, office methods, procedures and practices. The ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others, to communicate well with faculty, students, staff and public.

SPECIALIZED REQUIREMENTS: Must have knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets software and familiarity with Web page composition, editing, and posting. Macintosh computer experience desired.
