Final Class Meeting - Review of Group Game Assignment turnin
08may2013

CS 583 will be winding up today with the last group preview presentations from SkeetShooter and Nazis at the Center of the Earth. I want to take the time today to ensure everyone is clear about what is expected at our Final Exam - Monday 20May 1-3pm in AH1112.

I will ask the teams to signup for their position in the final exam presentation today - on the white board in the classroom.

For the Final Exam, all team members must attend, if only to ensure things run smoothly with the complete 13 minute presentation of your game. Recall, we have 8 teams and 2 hours [120/8 = 15 min], but want to have a little time for transition from one group to the next. We discovered in our preview sessions that the video/audio feeds from the individual tables were not reliable enough in the last 2 weeks of this semester. Therefore the group will bring their own notebook computer, connect to the podium system - 15pin video connector and reasonably long audio connector - which you were able to use yourselves.

Each team must return the 8GB thumb drive loaned to the group several weeks age containing the Zip file of your Clean Build of our your final game. I must be able to compile your game using Visual Studio 2010 and XNA 4.0, so all assets must be included in your Solution.

Please recall the instructions provided for your individual 2D game:

Sharing with Another User
To share your project, including source code, with an XNA Game Studio user
1. In XNA Game Studio, open the project you want to share.
2. On the Build menu, click Clean Solution.
This removes any built and intermediate files, leaving only the source code and assets. If you do not have this menu item, see "Cleaning the Solution Before You Build" in Deploying an Xbox 360 Game.
3. Open Windows Explorer, and browse to the folder that contains the project you want to share.
4. Right-click on the project folder in Windows Explorer, click Send To, and then click Compressed (zipped) Folder.
The compressed file is ready to share.

You also must provide a Group README file, as an upload to Blackboard, as well as on your Group Thumb drive. This README file must provide:
  1. The Team Name and list of the team members [first and last]
  2. The Team Game Name
  3. Describe the game and give credit for the assets used in your game (with an explanation). Please do not provide JUST a list of URLs. Permalink URLs are useful with additional text to provide context.
  4. Provide instructions for game play so that you instructor will be able to successfully run your game, after a new build or your Clean Game.
  5. The Group Lead should upload this document on behalf of the group members for the final exam.

If a group is unable to leave the final thumb drive with the instructor at the time of the final exam, you may drop it off with the CS/Math office GMCS 413 the next day. The Department has a locked drop box outside the 413 door. Put your Thumb Drive in an envelope with my name on the front. Once I have obtained a copy of the Group Game, I will distribute the Individual Contribution Statement [ICS] to the group members. You are required to fill this out and upload to an assignment item on Bb that will be created soon. This document is only between the individual student and the instructor and will be used by the instructor to award points for the final 3D Group Game.

Grades are due 21May2013 11pm, but I hope to complete grading before the College of Sciences Commencement ceremony on Sat 18May 4pm. Are you aware of the special significance this year - honoring the fact that Jack Kennedy received the first honorary doctorate degree and gave commencement speech 50 years ago - June 1963.
