Subject: New Policy Changes Affecting Students From: "Sandra Cook" Date: Mon, May 11, 2009 9:25 am To: advisers@lists.sdsu.edu Hello -- Several significant policy changes that affect undergraduate students will become effective this fall 2009. These policy changes result from actions of the Senate and/or Chancellor's Office Executive Orders. Please carefully review these policy changes below so that you can help students understand what the new rules mean for them. COURSE REPEAT * Students can only register for the same course if they previously earned a grade of "C-" or lower. * Undergraduate students can repeat up to a total of 28 units. * The old and new grades will both be calculated into the student's overall grade-point average. COURSE FORGIVENESS * Students can only register for the same course if they previously earned a grade of "C-" or lower. * Students may request a maximum of 16 units for course forgiveness as part of the 28-unit course repeat limit. * Students can only repeat the same course only once for course forgiveness. * No more than one course used for course forgiveness may be an upper division course. A printable guide for you to use in advising undergraduate students is attached and also available on the Academic Advising Center Web site: www.sdsu.edu/advising Students can apply for course forgiveness by completing the Course Forgiveness Request form that is available in the Office of the Registrar. Students who wish to receive academic advising on the course repeat and course forgiveness policies can visit the Academic Advising Center to speak with an academic adviser.
