Please email fvlahos@mail.sdsu.edu if you are interested in attending. I will send a reminder to this mailing list, with the location, in October. Overview: In the past generation, our world has witnessed numerous changes that seemingly defy our ability to comply with FERPA and at the same time uphold a supportive, academic community environment. How do you position yourself, your office, and your institution to fulfill your FERPA obligations and still foster positive relations with all constituencies? What role does technology play in an educational setting governed by regulations that were essentially conceived before the appearance of our current technology and automation? Technology can challenge our ability to comply with FERPA, but it can also be implemented in such a way as to achieve our efforts to comply with FERPA and contribute to a FERPA friendly campus. Join us for the Creating a FERPA Friendly Campus web conference to explore several essential components that must be implemented to create an effective compliance environment: Ongoing education/teaching/training Establishing and abiding by clear policies and procedures Providing easily accessible and understandable information and resources Designating a compliance official for the campus Ensuring the availability of official disclosures Proactive approach to security Fostering a respect for privacy Who Should Attend: Officials responsible for coordinating FERPA compliance throughout campus both online and offline will benefit most from this event. This could include registrars, counsel, policy professionals, technology specialists or compliance officers. Since FERPA compliance responsibility often lies with more than one individual, this event can provide a good opportunity for all stakeholders to come together and coordinate their efforts more effectively.
