RE: Referral - New CSU Student Code of Conduct

Kris -

At its November meeting, the CSU Board of Trustees approved a new CSU
Student Code of Conduct. The Committee on Educational Policy
summarized their new policy in the following way. "The substantive
content of the revised draft is not radically different from the
substance of the existing code. But it is a clearer expression of the
university's positive expectations of students and the specific
grounds that can form the basis for discipline. There are some new
bases for discipline that did not exist when the original code was
drafted (e.g., computer misuse)." (CSU Board of Trustees Agenda,
November 7-8, 2005, Committee on Educational
Policy; http://www.calstate.edu/BOT/Agendas/nov05/EdPol.pdf ).

The new code appears on pages 5-10 of the attached document and is
available online at:
http://www.calstate.edu/BOT/Agendas/nov05/index.shtml. One section
of the new code, Section 41301.b.15, addresses the misuse of computer
facilities or resources. The Senate officers ask the Instructional
and Information Technology Committee to consider whether the SDSU
Policy File needs to be updated to reflect the newly adopted code on
computer use and to report your recommendations to the Senate.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding
this referral.
