Folks:

Thank you all for coming to the sessions on the Instructional 
Materials Accessibility project.  As promised, here is a summary of 
the issues we discussed, and a synopsis of the three work groups we 
need to move forward.

The three restructured work groups are:

1.      Strategic Planning

This group will be responsible for developing a long-range strategy 
that both complies with the Instructional Materials Accessibility 
Plan (IMAP) and accounts for the needs and culture of SDSU.  It will 
support Mary Shojai on completing the IMAP updates, set objectives 
and goals, and review strategies for encouraging faculty buy-in.

2.      Implementation and Assessment

This group will work with Jim Julius and Jon Rizzo on testing and 
improving the resources on access.sdsu.edu and consult with ITS on 
the provision of services to faculty.  It will also be responsible 
for developing an effective plan to assess the success of our efforts.

3.      Communication

This group will be responsible for developing a strategy for 
communicating the goals of the IMAP and resources available to the faculty.

Some other issues we discussed included:
    * Carrots (assigned time for department/college accessibility 
czars? Provost's academic plans?) and sticks (FTES tax on 
non-compliant departments?)
    * Focusing on GE classes, large classes, multi-section classes
    * Linking with programmatic assessment
    * Connecting with other initiatives through CTL, student success, 
Research Foundation
